IGSSS' Response to the Tsunami
People to People Bond Across the Seas
On
GAA's request, the people of the City of Bonn, Germany have come
forward to take over partnership and patronage of the disaster
mitigation and rehabilitation efforts of IGSSS and GAA. Relief
operations now give way to the monumental task of the rebuilding
of lives and livelihood of the Tsunami survivors.
GAA and Bonn's Administration have committed to take care and
contribute to the rehabilitation efforts, especially concerning
housing, village infrastructure, water supply, sanitation and
livelihood. To start with, four villages - Sonangkuppam, Singarathopu,
Indranagar and Chinnavaikal (in the district of Cuddalore) have
been identified.
The Road Ahead
The process of rehabilitation is a long term one - not just because
of the need to build physical structures, but also lives. A survivor's
physical, emotional and mental make up needs to be restructured…
rebuilt. This is something that will take time. At IGSSS we understand
the enormity of this effort and are committed to make it a success.
However, we need your help too.
Help us help the survivors of the Tsunami to regain their
confidence in life and to build a better future….
